On the eve of the Detroit Auto Show Volkswagen surprised us all by debuting an all-new crossover concept model. The new vehicle is known as the VW Cross Coupe GTE, and has a plugin hybrid drivetrain. Volkswagen has a goal of recapturing US sales, which have been struggling in recent years. They also want to eventually become the largest automaker in the world, and it appears that this new crossover concept is a huge step in the right direction. We will be dedicating this blog post to telling you everything that we know about this all-new concept vehicle so far.

The Cross Coupe GTE Concept design is based off from a seven-seat, mid-size SUV. They are planning to build the actual production model of this vehicle at their Chattanooga, Tennessee plant. If everything goes as planned they hope to begin production on this new vehicle as early as 2016, and we couldn’t be more excited about it.

We feel that one of the coolest aspects of this vehicle is that it will be a larger mid-size vehicle that will share some design qualities with the popular Volkswagen Golf model.

This all-new Cross Coupe GTE has room for up to five passengers and has high-quality aluminum interior accents and features such as a 10.1-inch touch screen display and more.

On the outside of this vehicle Volkswagen has taken style to a whole new level in the crossover segment. The Cross Coupe GTE has exterior design features such as well-defined wheel arches, dual exhaust pipes, and a glass sunroof that stretches the entire length of the car, and more.

The all-new Volkswagen GTE is powered by a 3.6-liter VR6 engine that puts out 276 horsepower. That engine will be paired up with two electric motors, with 54 hp and 114 hp respectively. That means that the GTE will have a combined total of 335 horsepower, which is outstanding for a crossover vehicle. This vehicle will also be able to run about 20 miles on fully-electric power until the gasoline engine turns on.
