The Le Mans Ford GT is Here
For months we have been anticipating that Ford would be unveiling a new race version of their 2017 Ford GT to get back into endurance racing at the historic 24 Hours of Le Mans. Well, the wait is officially over, the Le Mans Ford GT is here. We are very excited that Ford is finally coming back to endurance racing, so we will be telling you all about this exciting new car in this blog post.
Anyone familiar with the history of the Ford brand should not be surprised at all that they are returning to endurance racing. This marks the 50th anniversary of Ford’s legendary first, second, and third place finish at the 1966 Le Mans where they upset Ferrari. That 1966 victory led to three more consecutive first place finishes at Le Mans for Ford, which was a major accomplishment for the blue oval automaker.
Last week marked the start of this years Le Mans race, and Mark Fields, Bill Ford, and Raj Nair were all on hand for the start of the event. On the eve of the start of Le Mans Ford unveiled their new race car GT, and announced their return to endurance racing next season. We couldn’t be any more excited about the announcement, or the car.
As you might expect, Ford is being rather vague with revealing details about this new race car right now. However, we have heard that it will actually be very similar to the customer version of the 2017 Ford GT that was unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show last year.
