Stereo Engine Noise Amplification
Ford is leading the charge with creating the most innovative and advanced engines that are getting ever increasing fuel economy ratings while continuing to remain powerful. Ford has mastered the art of making an engine smaller and more efficient while not sacrificing any power with its EcoBoost technology. As these engines have become more advanced and high-tech they are also becoming quieter. Now, for most vehicles quieter engines is a great thing. However, muscle cars are the exception to this. American muscle car enthusiasts want their cars to have a throaty growl that makes the cars sound as powerful as they are. Ford was able to solve this problem by implementing stereo engine noise amplification in the EcoBoost Mustang model.
Ford will be bringing their EcoBoost technology to the Ford Mustang for the 2015 model year and they have had to amplify the engine noise using stereo enhancements to maintain the muscle car growl that enthusiasts love.
This EcoBoost technology, which involves direct injection and turbochargers, helps the new 2.3 liter EcoBoost engine to make 310 horsepower and produce 310 lb-ft of torque. It also gives the Mustang a best in class fuel economy rating of 21 miles per gallon in the city and 32 miles per gallon on the highway. However, this smaller engine also runs a lot quieter than the bigger six-cylinder and eight-cylinder models.
Ford did not go in and create an artificial sound for the EcoBoost Mustang. They brought in the actual engine noise, then processed it to play through the cars stereo. Small groups of fans were brought in during the development of the new Mustang to help Ford figure out exactly how it should sound.
In our opinion, implementing this technology can be viewed as a good thing for the automotive industry in certain ways. It proves that we truly can have the best of both worlds when it comes to American muscle cars that sound as aggressive as they perform and are extremely fuel efficient. This increased focus on fuel efficiency is good for the environment and our wallets.
