Motor Trend Truck Shootout Results

In November Motor Trend held their annual truck shootout. All of us here at Dave Syverson Auto Center watched the results very closely because we carry two of the models that were compared in the shootout at our dealership. So for this blog post we have decided to give a summary of the Motor Trend Truck Shootout results.

Motor Trend compared three of the top truck models directly up against one another in the shootout this year. There was the new 2015 Ford F-150 and Ram 1500 Outdoorsman EcoDiesel, which we sell here at Dave Syverson Auto Center, and then the Chevrolet 1500 LTZ Z71.

We all thought that this would be the year of the Ford F-150. They came out with one of the most innovative trucks ever made this year with the all-new aluminum body that is 700 pounds lighter and more fuel efficient than its predecessor. The new 2015 Ford F-150 did extremely well in the competition. However, it did come in second place, the Ram 1500 Outdoorsman EcoDiesel ended up being the big winner this year at the shootout.

The Motor Trend Truck Shootout has a reputation for being one of the most thorough and honest tests in the automotive industry. They put these three trucks through over 1,000 miles of challenging driving conditions in California and Arizona.

Motor Trend found that the Ram 1500 and Ford F-150 did the best in the shootout, followed by the Chevrolet 1500 in last place.

The judges really liked the power and efficiency of the F-150’s 2.7 liter, twin-turbocharged, six-cylinder. The EcoBoost F-150 was also by far the quickest out of the group. The judges noted that this engine felt the same whether the bed was loaded down or empty.

The Ram was also considered to be very powerful as well, and its combination of air suspension and an eight-speed transmission was considered to be the best in the group. The Ram also won the fuel economy test by getting an impressive 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. The Ford F-150 was deemed to be very fuel efficient as well at 17 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway.

In the end the Ram was declared the winner with the F-150 following close behind it and the Chevrolet 1500 in last. Anyone interested in learning more about the new 2015 Ram 1500 or Ford F-150 should stop down and visit us at Dave Syverson Auto Center for a test drive.
