Jeep may be Developing Something Smaller Than the Renegade
Jeep fans around the world have been raving all year about the upcoming release of Jeeps all-new compact utility model, the Renegade. The Renegade, which will be arriving at dealerships in late February, is the smallest vehicle in the Jeep lineup. However, recently there have been rumors buzzing around the automotive community that Jeep may be developing something smaller than the Renegade. So we have decided to dedicate this blog post to sharing everything that we have heard about these rumors so far.
A recent report from AutoCar, claims that Jeep may be interested in developing a vehicle that is smaller than the Renegade. This could mean anything from a hatchback, to a sub-compact crossover, or anything else that Jeep can dream up.
Jeep’s CEO, Mike Manley, recently spoke on the subject saying that, “The growth rates of sales in the segment are very impressive, but we have yet to find a compelling case to do it.”
Manley is very intelligent, and always very aware and careful of what he is saying to the media. Basically, with that statement he is saying that there are no promises that a model that is smaller than the Renegade is coming, but he is also not denying it either.
Another issue with a Sub-Renegade model that comes into play is off-road capability. One thing that has always defined the Jeep brand is their dominance in creating the best, and most capable off-road vehicles on the market. Manley believes that it may be difficult for engineers to create a vehicle that is smaller than the Renegade that would be able to live up to Jeep’s reputation of off-road capability.
All of us here at Dave Syverson Auto Center are very excited about the possibility of a utility SUV that is even smaller than the new Renegade, but only time will tell if it will actually happen or not. Either way, we will be sure to keep you in the loop as more information is released about this rumor.
