Interesting Independance Day Facts
The summer months are already upon us, and that means that the Independence Day holiday is right around the corner. All of us here at Dave Syverson Auto Center have been gearing up for all the cookouts, parties, fireworks shows, and spending time with our friends and family. In honor of the Fourth and July holiday we have decided to dedicate this blog post to sharing some interesting Independance Day facts.
Uncle Sam was a Real Person:
One of the most iconic and patriotic figures that we celebrate on the Fourth of July is Uncle Sam. However, most people are unaware of the fact that Uncle Sam was not fictional, he was actually a real person. His name was Samuel Wilson, and he was born on September 13, 1766. He owned a meat packing company that supplied meat to the government during the War of 1812. He marked “U.S.” on all of the barrels that were being sent off for the war effort. For some reason the soldiers began calling the barrells with the “U.S.” stamp, Uncle Sam, and the name stuck.
Top Foods for the Fourth:
The U.S. Census Department reports that Americans consume 150 million hot dogs on the Fourth of July. Independence Day is also the biggest beer-selling holiday of the year as well. Americans also spend about $11 million on popsicles and charcoal on the Fourth of July as well.
The American Pyrotechnics Association estimates that there are around 14,000 professionally done fireworks shows that light up the skies in the United States every Fourth of July.
All of us here at Dave Syverson Auto Center would like to wish you and your family a happy and safe Fourth of July this year!
