Nothing in America, is more ubiquitous than the reputation of the 2014 Ford F-150 in Albert Lea, MN. Consistently being the top selling car in the U.S. of A will do that for you. Hailed by everyone from ranchers to construction works to Joe “I wanna tow my boat to the lake this weekend,” which by the way is a very odd last name, the F-150 is the truck of choice. Sure, it has stiff competition, but the sheer variety, long last quality, and the tantalizing prospect of the 2015 redesign, the whopping thirteenth generation of F-150s, it makes this Ford truck that much easier to accept as the leader of the class.

The hardest part is actually making a half decent summary because the variety of what is offered. There are luxury models full of leather and options for comfort, off road models built for the toughest and roughest roads out there, or a truck that is simply made to work, pulling, lifting and towing whatever is out there. Few trucks, much less few cars, SUV’s or even mini-vans provide the staggering amount of customization the Ford 150 allows straight from the maker. Add on the ability for post market modification and the F-150 can do just about anything a customer could want.

Engines are provided in 4 different flavors, though all are coupled with a six-speed transmission. Rear 2WD is standard, save for the Raptor model, which a 4WD model, a feature that is optional on the other models. Most engines are the standard 3.7 liter V6. The two most common upgrades from the standard are a twin-turbocharged 3.5 liter V6 (the EcoBoost model) and a much larger 5.0-liter V8. Again, the Raptor is the outlier being the only model where the final engine option is standard. It’s a 6.2 V8 engine, where the power compromises the fuel economy, but being an off-road vehicle, it’s a matter of what is more important.

The safe and comfortable drive is good for such a large truck and will only get better with the revamp for next year. Add to that the reliability and variety that Ford brings and it’s clear that there is a very clear reason why the
has been on the top of the American sales chart for quite literally decades. And with the future bright, there is no reason it won’t continue its reign.
